We all know that scenario prior to any business flight. You are trying to pack your bags and brush your teeth while you struggle to put on your clothing. The minutes are ticking down as your plane’s departure time draws closer and closer.

Here are some of our tips to prevent you getting flustered for your flight.

It will help to do your preparations the night before. Make sure that your bags are already packed, using a checklist so that you do not forget everything. If you are catching a taxi to the airport, remember to make a booking, leaving plenty of time for bad traffic if it occurs.

The morning of the flight, set your alarm so that you have plenty of time for getting ready. Also remember to eat, unless of course the flight is long enough for them to provide you with a hearty meal.

Keep carryon luggage as small and compact as you can, and make sure it has a comfortable strap.  Put items that you need handy, such as passport, tickets, gum and cellphone, in specific, easy to access pockets.  If you will be storing your carryon luggage in an overhead compartment, also make sure that any items that you want to take out of the bag to have during the flight are conveniently sitting at the top of your bag.

Airplane temperatures can vary wildly, so wear comfortable clothes made of breathable, natural fibres and opt for layers that you can remove if you get too warm.  If the flight is long, don’t underestimate the comfort that can be provided by a simple travel pillow, eye mask and blanket!

Finally, if you are driving to the airport, many car parks offer discounted members’ rates, full time security guards and free shuttle buses to the domestic and international terminals. This should take care of your car and your peace of mind at the same time.

No Jetlag!

Jetlag is a common phenomenon experienced by thousands of long distance business travelers commuting globally each day. Caused when shifting time zones from one country to another, it can cause tiredness, irritability and headaches and can ruin that business conference or event if not dealt with properly.

To help your body say no to jetlag here are some useful tips.

Before the flight, make sure to get a good night’s sleep and resist the urge to go and have some farewell drinks with your work colleagues or loved ones. Just say no.  Jetlag can be worse than a hangover!

You can also start to shift your body clock towards your destination time zone a few days before you depart by changing your sleeping schedule.

Once on the plane, make sure to keep your body healthy. Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated in the cabin’s rarefied air and keep active by walking around to maintain blood circulation.  Also, try to sleep and stay awake on the plan following the time zone of the city where you are heading.

If arriving at your destination during the daylight hours, force yourself to stay awake until night finally descends by taking a cold shower or buying a hot meal. By eating properly and sleeping at the right times, your business trip will have no jetlag and be a lot more tolerable.
