Mobile Portable Printers: Which Type Is for You?
With the bevy of compact laptops and smart phones currently available, it may seem that the business traveler now has everything that they need to maintain productivity while on the go. However, one area which is still advancing is printing, and it will be interesting to see future developments in creating fresh documents in transit.
The latest mobile portable printers come in two varieties:
- The more traditional models have simply been shrunk down from their desktop counterparts and still require ink cartridges or toners. These weigh around 4 to 5 pounds and will fit into your carry-on luggage.
- For those looking for something lighter, there are even smaller models which do away with the messiness of ink. These mobile printers weigh less than 2 pounds and rely on thermal technology to create monochrome prints on special paper.
When deciding which type to purchase, it is essential to factor in your budget, the future purpose of the printer, and the required size. Thermal printers are more expensive than the traditional cartridge models and can only print in black and white. They make up for this with their miniature size, but if you require color documents while on the move, cartridge or toner models of portable printers will suit you more.
